Should you renew your domain name for a long period of time and if so, how long is long enough ? We know of countless examples of where a Domain Name has expired and been lost and has subsequently been purchased by somebody else.

This can be avoided simply by looking at the length of time you have registered your domain names. For the sake of your brand and peace of mind, consider registering it 5 or 10 years. Please ensure that you have a valid email address when you register your Domain Name and it is kept valid and up to date. Sounds simple doesn't it, however, when customers say that they did not receive any notification, this is one of the first things that we check and 99.9% of the time it is because they are no longer using their hotmail address.

If, for whatever reason, you don't renew your domain name, someone watching a 'watch list' of expiring domain names will try to capitalise on the online business that you've built over the years. They know that there is potential website traffic they can have simply by renewing your old domain name. By renewing your domain name for several years, your domain name won't expire for a while, and it won't be opened up to expired domain name buyers.
