Just don’t focus on the home page, keywords and titles.
The first step to sales when customers visit your site to see the products they were looking for. Of course, search engine optimization and better rankings can’t keep your customer on your site or make them buy. The customer having visited your site, now ensure that he gets interested in your products or services and stays around. Motivate him to buy the product by providing clear and unambiguous information. Thus if you happen to sell more than one product or service, provide all necessary information about this, may be by keeping the information at a different page. By providing suitable and easily visible links, the customer can navigate to these pages and get the details.
Understanding Your Target Customer
If you design a website you think will attract clients, but you don’t really know who your customers are and what they want to buy, it is unlikely you make much money. Website business is an extension or replacement for a standard storefront. You can send email to your existing clients and ask them to complete a survey or even while they are browsing on your website. Ask them about their choices. Why do they like your products? Do you discount prices or offer coupons? Are your prices consistently lower than others? Is your shipping price cheaper? Do you respond faster to client questions? Are your product descriptions better? Your return policies and guarantees better than your competitor’s? To know your customer you can check credit card records or ask your customer to complete a simple contact form with name, address, age, gender, etc. when they purchase a product.
Does your website give enough contact information?
When you sell from a website, your customer can buy your products 24 hrs a day and also your customers may be from other states that are thousands of miles away. Always provide contact information, preferably on every page of your website, complete with mailing address, telephone number and an email address that reaches you. People may need to contact you about sales, general information or technical problems on your site. Also have your email forwarded to another email address if you do not check your website mailbox often. When customer wants to buy online provide enough options like credit card, PayPal or other online payment service.

We often get asked what are the best things to do to get a higher ranking on Google, Yahoo or MSN for that fact. We don’t believe that there is just 1 thing to do to achieve a higher ranking, but a combination of a lot of little things.
The Search Engines use a complex range of algorithms to achieve the findings that they have and rightly so, they are very protective and cautious in regards to the integrity of those findings and the algorithms that are used. With that in mind, it would be then fair to suggest that they have the right to constantly change, alter, amend or rectify the code at any given time, to prevent spammers and people with unethical motives from dominating the search results.
In our experience, we have found that by utilising the guidelines, albeit very loose, and making your website, a website of worth and value, will over time ensure you of the high rankings you desperately seek. Read the rest of this entry »
According to Wikipedia, Backlinks (or back-links (UK)) are incoming links to a website or web page. In the search engine optimization (SEO) world, the number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page.
In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node (Björneborn and Ingwersen, 2004). Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.
Although Search Engines may not place as much weight on the relevance of backlinks as they once did, does not mean that you shouldn’t ask for them. On the contrary, attempt to receive backlinks from high ranking and specific websites that compliment your website or niche area.
For example, if you own a landscaping / Gardening business and website, attempt to receive backlinks from highly sought after gardening experts, leading landscaping suppliers or even consider the major golf courses. Why the Golf Courses, I hear the masses screaming ? Simply because the greens of a golf course require expert gardening techniques, care and maintenance, so it follows that the search engines recognise or shold recognise this fact and reward you accordingly. In the event that they don’t, so what, you still have a backlink from St. Andrews Golf Course Royal Melbourne Golf Club or The Golf Club

Ask as many people as you can find, the following question … what is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) ? and you will receive different answers.
For simplicity, let’s agree to use the following as a starting point. SEO can be defined as the process of making changes to the content, code and structure of your website to make it more accessible to search engines by providing clearly defined keywords and or keyword phrases of your niche.
Search engine optimization is not and never has been about tricking or scamming the search engines.
Granted, in the “Early Days” you only had to place a keyword here or there and you were basically given the number 1 spot. That proved to be both good and bad, however, as search engines evolved and they do and will continue to do so, you will need to ensure that your website is correctly optimised.
Optimisation is about understanding what elements search engines look for on a webpage to help in determining the relevance of that webpage for a particular keyword or keyword phrase. By understanding these elements and making the relevant adjustments to your webpage, you can improve your rank for a search term.
As we all know, Search engines use “spiders” or “crawlers” to visit your Web site and index the information accordingly. This information includes the content, as well as some coding aspects used to construct your webpage or website.
When designing or building your website, there are two simple things to take into consideration. Firstly, your website visitors and Secondly the Search Engines. Told you it was simple. Get those two aspects correct and you are grining. Don’t however, rely on building it once and then leaving it there, to be ranked highly for your keywords, both long tail and short tail, you must constantly work it. Look at it like exercise, if you don’t exercise your body and muscles, they waste away, same with your website, if you don’t consistently add new information, promote it and work it, it to will waste away and join the other forgotten websites languishing at the bottom of the internet pit.

There is a general concensus out there in internet land that Meta Tags either don’t work or of no use anymore. Be that as it may, We, Hosting Impact, do not subscribe to that theory. True, the search engines may not lend as much weight to them as they once did and we have the spammers, once again, to thank for that. Any useful tool that has been designed to assist everyone, has been exploited by the spammers, used, spat out and disgarded like an old toy, until it serves little or no purpose.
With all that aside, Meta tags still have a place within Websites and the correct implementation of Search Engine Optimisation procedures. Meta Tags offer a hint or clue to the search engines of what lies beneath and within the website. This hint is enough to entice the engines to crawl your website and rank it accordingly.
We are not saying that Meta Tags are the be all to end all, however, we do believe that if you use them and use them correctly, they will provide you with a benefit. How much of a benefit, is up for debate and we are not interested in that. We are more interested in developing and implementing sound SEO practices and web design techniques.
In a nutshell, if the content of your website reflects or relates to the hidden meta tags, then it stands to reason that the spider has a valuable point of reference on the content of that page and more importantly, your keywords and or keyword phrases. Keyword Suggestion Tool

Website Traffic is the most essential thing for a website to become a successful internet based business. Aside from ensuring that you have great products and services to sell, you do need traffic, quality traffic, to be successful.
If you already have a website and yet think that you’re not getting the traffic that you want to have or should have, then it’s maybe time to review, your current website.
You should always be on your guard and be ever mindful of your competitors websites and review how they are achieving their results. Is it becasue of traffic and if so, How, Where, Why, When.
Generating traffic or more quality traffic to your website, is not as difficult as you might imagine. However, what may be difficult for some webiste owners, is the fact that they may need to do it themselves or engage the services of a company to assist. It is no longer a case of I have built my website, where are my customers. Does not work that way and I seriously doubt it ever did.
Here are three ways to increase your traffic starting from yesterday.
1) Viral Marketing
Viral marketing is a cute little buzz word being thrown around at the moment, however, this cute little buzz word effectively allows you to spread the word about your company and product with minimal cost. This is a marketing method that can be used intelligently, whereby you can attach your company’s name, signature, product or link to any available media such as a You Tube, Twitter, Face Book, Linked In or Community Forum etc…. If used correctly, your website will generate additional traffic as your post, input, video or thread is passed from pillar to post.
2) Correct keywords or keyword phrases for your website
Search engines look for certain keywords that they then display in their results page. So it naturally follows that by having the right keyword and relevant keyword phrase is a high priority for ranking high within the search engines. Case in point: Client wants to be number 1 for the term “Real Estate” however, after much convincing the term “Port Stephens Real Estate” is used, as it is a much better selection ofa keyword, plus, it certainly is not as competitive. End result, the customer is satisifed with the results and they also get a better understanding of why and how relevant keywords work.
3) Write Articles that can lead traffic to your site
Consider submitting articles to websites that contain the similar subjects to yours. For example, you sell car parts, then write press releases and articles about cars and car parts. Include your website description and services at the end of the article. Please remember to include your link. There are a number of Article Submission places that encourage you to write and submit articles on your area of expertise. These articles are then used by other websites on the proviso that the article remains in tact, complete with your link.
End of the day, it comes down to the same rules, if you like and that is that you need to take full responsibility for your website and it’s results or lack of. Don’t have the expertise, that’s ok, contact a company that does, but either way, you still need to do something.
Doing something and attempting something is far better than not doing anything and expecting results and or changes.
One of the biggest bugbears and time consuming aspects of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) back in the old days, was the time required to alter, add and or change the content. This change of content allowed the search engines to identify numerous aspects of your website and more importantly being able to find and subsequently rank it. However, it was at times a long, drawn out process and at times not enjoyable.
With the advent and development of Blogs, the ability to change and or alter the website content with relevant and fresh content have moved the goalposts significantly so that it is no longer necessarily the case!
The website owner now has the ability to create fresh, new relevant keyword rich content at any time of the day or night.
Now, that is not to say that SEO is a tactic that you no longer need to consider. Indeed, with ever increasing competition in online market places, Search Engine Optimisation is something that needs greater thought and consideration with every passing day.

A backlink is a link which directs others towards your site; they are also referred to as inbound links (IBL’s). So, the number of backlinks that your site has is an indication of how popular or important it is according to your peers (other site owners). These are especially important for SEO, as search engines such as Google will give more credit to those sites with a good number of quality backlinks. So they will then consider these sites more relevant than others in the results pages of a search query.
Most search engines will want websites to have a level playing field, and so will more often than not look for natural links that have been built slowly over time. Although it can be fairly easy to manipulate the links on a web page in order to achieve a higher ranking, it is a lot harder to influence a search engine with external backlinks from another site. This is why these feature so highly in a search engine’s algorithm. Today it has gotten even harder to achieve these inbound links because of unscrupulous webmasters. Such people try to achieve these links by deceptive or sneaky techniques (through either hidden links or through automatically generated pages). Such pages are known as link farms and they are generally disregarded by search engines. But if you are linked to such a link farm, then you may find your site being banned entirely from these search engines.
Another way of achieving quality backlinks to a site is to entice quality visitors to come to yours.
There are a number of ways in which back linking can be achieved.
1. Reciprocal Linking – this is where you link to another site that provides the same service or product as you and they in turn have a link to your site on theirs.
2. Site Submissions. Submit links for your site to directories which allow free submissions, or if you can afford it, some paid directories. There are many sites around which offer a service where you can submit your site details to numerous sites. Plus, if you want, you can always create your own directory of similar websites.
3. Articles. This is another way of getting great backlinks. So if you have a reputable looking site that contains informative, well written reviews, then there is a good chance that your articles will receive high search engine rankings also. But it is vital that any articles you write are on the subject, informative and thorough in relation to your site. Also you could always write a few articles for submission to article sites such as EzineArticles.com or SearchWarp.com. This is another great way of getting even more backlinks to your site.
Below are a few tips you will need to consider in order to write good articles for your site.
a. Write in a way that your intended target audience will understand what you are trying to say. In other words, don’t write it like you were a teacher talking to a class of 10 year olds, but don’t be overly complicated.
b. Check your spelling, grammar and punctuation.
c. Consider an article of between 300 to 500 words.
d. Always include a resource box at the end, as this will include that all important backlink to your site. This resource box should also include a short biography regarding you and your site.
4. Blogging. This has now become an integral part of the internet and is one of the most effective ways of linking. You either have the choice of placing a few words of comments on to someone else’s blog, or you may want to link to them from your own blog. In fact, you will find that most blogs will be happy to link back to you. However, it is important that you try to update your blog regularly and post interesting content to ensure that people will want to link back to you.
