Search Engine Commands are normally utilised by search engine professionals to identify certain key aspects about a particular website they may be currently working on.

Knowing them can really bring information about a specific site and its standing in the World Wide Web to light. Here are some of the more often and most important search engine commands:

Site: - Displays all of the pages indexed by the engine of the site.

Link: - Locates some links pointing to the site.

Cache: - Shows the last indexed and cached version of a site.

Info: - Displays general info about a site with other search commands.

Related: - Shows websites that may be semantically or directly related to the site.

Try them on our own site or alternatively check out the opposition, but above all else, have fun. As with all aspects of SEO, do not rely on just one method or level of research. Check and confirm everything and when you have finished checking and confirming, there is one last thing to do and that is to check and confirm again.

It is highly recommended to consider using your targeted keywords within the page title itself. The title tag is different from the Meta Tag, however it is worth considering it in relation to them. Whatever text you place within the Title Tag (ie: between the <title> and </title> portions) will appear in the title bar of the browser and this is what your website visitors and more importantly the Search Engines will see when they visit your web page.  Additionally, some browsers may append whatever you place in the Title Tag by adding their own name, as for example Microsoft's Internet Explorer or OPERA.

The Search Engines may decide to rank your web page based purely on the actual text you use within the Title Tag.

If you have designed your website as a series of websites or linked pages and not just a single Home Page, you must bear in mind that each page of your website must be optimised accordingly. The Title Tag of each page i.e. the keywords you use on that page and the keyword phrases that you use in the content will draw traffic to your site.  Although the Title Tag on each page must reflect the actual content of that page, it is to be used in conjunction with the Meta Tags, Description and keywords, if it is to be ranked highly for your preferred keywords.

The unique combination of these words and phrases and content will draw customers using different search engine terms and techniques, so ensure that you capture all the keywords and phrases you need for each product, service or information page.

One of the most common mistakes made by small business owners when they first design their website is to place their business name in every title of every page.  Identify what your product or service is and use that title within the Title Tag.

One last thing to consider when writing your Title Tag is to avoid using words like "and", "at" and "the" as they will have no direct impact on your keyword preference. Everything you do on your webpage should be directed to improving your search engine position.

All websites needs visitors. Gee, what a profound statement, no I can not take credit for that.  How original, all websites needs visitors. Sounds simple doesn't it, yet we, Hosting Impact, receive phone calls and or emails daily from website owners that had their websites designed by other companies and want us to provide them with a FREE SEO Report. We gladly do this report as it identifies key SEO factors that, if addressed, will improve how the search engines currently look at them.

The conversation with the customer normally goes like this:

Hosting: Good Morning, Hosting Impact, How may we help you ?
Customer: I have a website and want you to do your FREE SEO Report.
Hosting: OK, How long have you had the website for ?
Customer: about 4 years and we are not being found in the search engines ?

It is at this point, judging from the tone of the customer, that we can also summise that they have not changed, altered and or added information, relevant information to it. The conversation normally ends with the customer saying, "The web design company isn't as good as we thought they were and we have been ripped off. Our response, In some cases, yes that may very well be true, however, in a lot of cases, web designers are not by nature, SEO Specialists or even SEO aware. Nor should they be, it is a different ballgame all together. Additionally, you had this designed 4 years ago. 4 years is a long time in the internet and a lot of things have changed, have you changed your website at all in 4 years ?

Hello.....Hello...Are you there ?

There are certain design principles that have evolved that will certainly assist in search engine optimisation, but overall, web design is not to be confused with true SEO. That is like going to a dentist and asking, while your there, can you check my blood pressure and give me a clean bill of health. It aint going to happen.

A major source of traffic for most sites on the Internet is search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN, etc. Hence, by designing a search engine friendly site, you will be able to rank easily in search engines and obtain more visitors.

Major search engines use crawlers or robots to index websites to list on their search result pages. Once they have it indexed, they read the content of the page, record it in their own database and then display it as people search for it. Simplistically speaking.

If you want to make your site indexed easily, you should avoid using frames on your website. Frames are so yesterday. That is all we really need to say about that.

Refrain from presenting important information in Flash movies or within images. Search engine robots can only read text on your source code so if you present important words in Flash movies and images rather than textual form, your search engine ranking may be affected dramatically.

Use meta tags accordingly on each and every page of your site so that search engine robots know exactly what that particular page is about and whether or not to index it. By using meta tags, you are making the search engine robot's job easier so they will crawl and index your site more frequently.

Stop using wrong HTML tags like <font> to style your page. Use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) instead because they are more effective and efficient. By using CSS, you can eliminate redundant HTML tags and make your pages much lighter and faster to load.

Use Correct Title Tags when addressing your website.
Use Precise Meta Tags
Use Exact Description
Use Good Content
Use Correct Keywords
Use Alt Tags
Update With Fresh Content On A Regular Basis

Do Not Spam the Search Engines
Do Not Keyword Stuff Your Web Page - Do so at your own peril- You Have Been Warned

By adopting the above Do's and Dont's, you will be better received within the search engines.

Depending on the amount of feedback we receive, we will design a website live, brand new and show everybody the entire process, from start to finish. How to do it correctly. You can sit in and watch the entire process. There will be no charge, it will be completely free, we will not hide any aspect of it. At the end of it, you will be able to use the exact same principles on your own website. If this is of interest, please contact Hosting Impact accordingly.

We trust you have found this post of benefit.

Search Engine Optimization is a process of choosing the most appropriate targeted keyword phrases related to your website and business, ensuring that this ranks your site highly in search engines so that when someone searches for specific phrases it returns your website at least within the first 3 pages and ideally on the first page. Research has shown that website visitors generally do not go past the first three pages of search results and of course being on the first page is a preference.  It basically involves a process of incorporating fine tuning the content of your website along with HTML and Meta tag aspects and also appropriate link building systems.

The most popular search engines are Google, Yahoo, MSN and when you think about it they have only been around for about 10 years, give or take. Search engines keep their methods and ranking algorithms secret and change them accordingly. This in itself is not a bad thing as it helps to deter spam pages from clogging those results.  Another good thing from this change is the fact that web designers and SEO Specialists are encouraged to engage in sound seo practices. Of course, there are always those cowboys and self righteous ego manics that believe they can bend the rules to suit themselves, but they will be caught and their websites will be banned, it is just a matter of time. A search engine may use hundreds of factors while ranking the listings where the factors themselves and the weight each carries may change continually. Algorithms can differ so widely that a webpage that ranks #1 in a particular search engine could rank #200 in another search engine. New sites need not be "submitted" to search engines to be listed. A simple link from a well established site will get the search engines to visit the new site and begin to spider its contents. It can take a few days to even weeks from the referring of a link from such an established site for all the main search engine spiders to commence visiting and indexing the new site.

If you are unable to research and choose keywords and work on your own search engine ranking, you may want to hire someone to work with you on these issues. For additional infromation or assistance please contact Hosting Impact.

Search engine marketing and promotion companies, will look at the plan for your site and make recommendations to increase your search engine ranking and website traffic. They will also provide ongoing consultation and reporting to monitor your website and make recommendations for editing and improvements to keep your site traffic flow and your search engine ranking high. Normally search engine optimization experts work with your web designer to develop an integrated plan from the commencement of your website.

Who's To Blame ... It aint me, it aint my dog ... then it must be the internet. It must be the Marketers. It's got to be somebody, cause it aint me.

I have just literally hung up the phone from a potential customer, sorry potential SEO Customer and thank goodness I gave up smoking 12 months ago, drinking 3 days ago and sex, yea right ... anyway ... otherwise, I would be a chain smoking, bourbon drinking $%^& rat.

Where do potential customers get the idea that if they or somebody else build a $19.99 website and put pretty little pictures inside it and place one or two "keywords" throughout it, then asks, why can I not be number 1 in Google for the "Keyword" hosting.

Probaly because there is approximately 440,000,000 search results, yes that's right, 440,000,000 results. Nothing wrong with being optimistic and positive and all the other adjectives I can think of, however, the thing that amuses and frustrates me at the same time is that they want to achieve this with a set budget of $400.00

To top it off, they would like to know what references We have, what past results We have and wait for it, can we do it a bit cheaper than the allocated $400.00, because they just spent $7 000.00 in a phone book advertisement. Do we offer a gurantee, that if there website is not Number 1 within 10 days, can they get there money back.

Damm, I suppose so, yea hell why not and while you are there, why not just bend me over and #$%^&* me. Oh by the way, I asked this potential SEO Customer, if he placed the same demands onto the Phone book company, ie: if he doesn't receive an inquiry every day from the phone book, will they get their money back. I don't believe he appreciated that, I don' know why, I was smiling when I said it.

If it was as easy as that, don't you believe that we, Hosting Impact, would at least have a look at doing that for us, but noooooo, we wouldn't even consider it, because we know the market is far too competitive and we don't believe our targeted customers would type in that word.  We know the advantages in long tail keywords and that they can produce good sound results. These results allows us to build a foundation to at least start with.

I am missing an important component, yes, yes, apart from the "Keyword" Hosting and the Budget of $400.00, they would like it achieved in about 7 to 10 days, because that is when they will be starting their business. I remember now, they are still working for somebody else and want their Hosting business to be up an running and getting new customers every day, so they can pay for their new offices and wages.

Give me a break people, I know a lot of us receive emails saying that you will be Number 1 for blah blah blah in 1 week and it will cost you $19.99... GO FOR IT ... EMBRACE IT ... BUT LEAVE ME ALONE.

Search Engine Optimisation is a legitimate business and we do enjoy the challenges that we face everyday. Challenges with our customers websites, challenges with our own websites, but we do enjoy it and when we have positioned our clients website, within the search engines, where we said they would be within a reasonable time frame, that is pure joy. No Cheap Tricks, no sneaky black ops, just quality workmanship, time and effort.

So to all of the snake oil salesman out there claiming they can do this and this and this for only $19.99 and within a week you will be number 1, I say, GO $%&^* yourself.

I can not really blame the customer, because the interent does look simple and in many ways it is, however, common sense applies people. The business that has invested time, effort and money into marketing and search engine optimisation techniques, will really give up their number 1 position for their selected keywords...just because you have built a brand new website. No, I don' think so either.

A backlink is a link which directs others towards your site; they are also referred to as inbound links (IBL’s).  So, the number of backlinks that your site has is an indication of how popular or important it is according to your peers (other site owners).  These are especially important for SEO, as search engines such as Google will give more credit to those sites with a good number of quality backlinks.  So they will then consider these sites more relevant than others in the results pages of a search query.

Most search engines will want websites to have a level playing field, and so will more often than not look for natural links that have been built slowly over time.  Although it can be fairly easy to manipulate the links on a web page in order to achieve a higher ranking, it is a lot harder to influence a search engine with external backlinks from another site.  This is why these feature so highly in a search engine’s algorithm.  Today it has gotten even harder to achieve these inbound links because of unscrupulous webmasters.  Such people try to achieve these links by deceptive or sneaky techniques (through either hidden links or through automatically generated pages).  Such pages are known as link farms and they are generally disregarded by search engines.  But if you are linked to such a link farm, then you may find your site being banned entirely from these search engines.

Another way of achieving quality backlinks to a site is to entice quality visitors to come to yours.

There are a number of ways in which back linking can be achieved.

1. Reciprocal Linking - this is where you link to another site that provides the same service or product as you and they in turn have a link to your site on theirs.

2. Site Submissions.  Submit links for your site to directories which allow free submissions, or if you can afford it, some paid directories.  There are many sites around which offer a service where you can submit your site details to numerous sites.  Plus, if you want, you can always create your own directory of similar websites.

3. Articles.  This is another way of getting great backlinks.  So if you have a reputable looking site that contains informative, well written reviews, then there is a good chance that your articles will receive high search engine rankings also.  But it is vital that any articles you write are on the subject, informative and thorough in relation to your site.  Also you could always write a few articles for submission to article sites such as EzineArticles.com or SearchWarp.com.  This is another great way of getting even more backlinks to your site.

Below are a few tips you will need to consider in order to write good articles for your site.

a. Write in a way that your intended target audience will understand what you are trying to say.  In other words, don’t write it like you were a teacher talking to a class of 10 year olds, but don’t be overly complicated.

b. Check your spelling, grammar and punctuation.

c. Consider an article of between 300 to 500 words.

d. Always include a resource box at the end, as this will include that all important backlink to your site.  This resource box should also include a short biography regarding you and your site.

4. Blogging.  This has now become an integral part of the internet and is one of the most effective ways of linking.  You either have the choice of placing a few words of comments on to someone else’s blog, or you may want to link to them from your own blog.  In fact, you will find that most blogs will be happy to link back to you.  However, it is important that you try to update your blog regularly and post interesting content to ensure that people will want to link back to you.

Creating Your Website Presence

Creating Your Website Presence

What is search engine friendly content.  You may believe it is about stuffing your website with targeted keywords, however, it certainly isn’t.  In fact, if you attempted to do that, you may find that you could fall foul of the search engines if you attempt it.  It is a simple rule and one that will keep you in good stead and that is to write copy that not only search engine spiders will look at, but also human beings will as well.  What is the point of having a site that is highly ranked, yet none of your visitors can understand, nor trust?  So it is vital that your website is user friendly to both your visitors, as well as search engine spiders.

First of all you need to answer the following questions:-

1.           What is your site for?

2.           What does it do?

3.           What do you want your visitors to do when they reach it?

4.           Would you like them to spend money when they get to it?

5.           Or are you just providing them with information?

So the above points will have an impact on the copy that you write for the content of your website.

So whenever possible, use short paragraphs or bullet points, as these are more likely to attract visitors, while more lengthy essays will only drive them away.

But if you are selling a service or product then you need to make your site look interesting.  Provide as many calls to action as you can, and not just provide them with an online price list.

So remember that you are trying to attract the search engines, but at the same time your website should be designed for human readers.  As long as your website has been designed well and with people in mind, then 9 times out of 10 you will find that it is search engine friendly also.

Just like a visitor to your website reads the copy on your page in order to figure out what you have to offer, so does a search engine.  So when a search engine is looking at your web page, they are looking for keyword phrases in your copy (Content), as well as other vital components.

Below are provided a number of tips which may help you in your SEO endevours. The list is by no means complete or final and is provided purely as a guide. For additional information please visit the following link: http://www.hostingimpact.com/search_engine_optimisation_preparation.htm

1.  Although there are no hard and fast rules, the general feelings are that you should have at least 200 words of relevant copy on each page of your website.  Although this may be difficult at times, search engines really like it, so it is important that you increase the amount of copy where and when you are able to.

This text, wherever possible, should include your most important keywords and or keyword phrases, but should still remain logical and easy to read for your website visitors.

2.  Ensure that you use the keyword phrases which you have used within your meta tags and meta description sections for that particular webpage.

3.  Add additional relevant copy filled pages to the site, such as how to articles, tips or tutorials.  Not only do these types of pages help with SEO, but you may find that other sites will link to yours.

These tips, although not infinite or definite should not be ignored, as optimising your web page  (content) is one of the most important things you could possibly do in order to improve your rankings in the Search Engines.

We trust that you have found this information helpful and in the event that you require additional information or assistance please feel free to contact Australia's Leading Search Engine Optimisation Specialists , Hosting Impact.

If you make your page titles as simple, descriptive and relevant as possible, it will make it easier for the search engines to know what each page of your website is about.  This will then allow people to scan through the search results they get, and are able to quickly determine if your document contains what they are actually looking for.

Additionally, it should be remembered that the page title is generally what is used in order to link to your site from the results provided by the search engines.

Above all else, it is important to ensure that the title on each of your web pages refelct the actual content of that page. We believe that it is one of your most important elements of your website.  In fact, some people will argue that this the most important part of any site above all other things. Please visit this website to see an example of correct Titlt Tags

We as Search Engine Optimisation Specialists often see websites that have the same "Title Page Tag" spread throughout the entire website. If you do nothing else, please ensure that the Title Tag on each of your webpages reflect the nature or content of that page and that page only.
